Ave of the Giants Motorcycle Trip (plus a 10K!)
“Despite the weather” is never a good way to start off a trip report, but we’d been planning on heading up to the Humbolt Redwoods State Park ever since the gauntlet was thrown down between two friends to run the Avenue of the Giants half marathon. While we were not part of the actual head-to-head matchup for the race, the trip sounded like fun, and we figured the 10K option would be about right for our triathlon workout regimen. Plus, after finally biting the bullet and buying a brand spanking new BMW F800GS in February, it seemed to be perfect for an inaugural tour and shakedown before some longer trips planned for the summer. The other Dave, despite being in contention in the half marathon, didn’t have to be asked twice about riding his new KTM 990 Adventure up with us. (more)

Happy Birthday to me...
After reading countless threads on sites like advrider.com about Honda XL250's being the bike they used to "terrorize their home town" on, I've been obsessed with finding one to work on as a project, to use as a dirt bike, and for Ann to learn to ride on. I like the looks of the older ones and given that I have a '73 orange sparkle CB750, got excited when I saw a new listing ON CraigsList for a '74 XL250 with light blue and orange graphics that would make a nice pair. A handy guide to your new Gorilla. Written up for Richard and Alix when they dog sat while we were in New Zealand. Reports are that it prepared them well for life with the Gorilla.

48 Hours in Mexico
There are only so many times you can say no to someone inviting you to stay with them in Mexico, and we were at our limit. Yeah, it wasn't the perfect time to go. Yeah, we could only be there for 48 hours. But the promise of 80 degree weather and Pacifico's on the beach is hard to resist. (more)

Check out some video of most of the first set from one of our regular 3rd Monday shows at Amnesia. People had been traveling all summer so this was our first chance in a while to get together and wing a set list around the single mic. Was a good time. Check out the video. (more)

Germany, Austria and Switzerland on a motorcycle
Growing up, I had always been intrigued by the concept of motorcycles but had been implicitly programmed to think they were dangerous and not something “someone like me” would actually do. No one I knew had a bike. I had never even really been up clo (more)
